Hotel Operations Management Students Hosting and Participating “HOM Students Bartender Competition 2024” at THEi
Awards & Competitions
The HOM Students Bartender Competition 2024 was successfully hosted on 21 November 2024 (Thursday) at the Exhibition Hall, THEi (Chai Wan) by students of MCC5425 Bar & Beverage Management and MHO5412 MICE Business & Operations Management. The competition featured 10 contestants from CAM and HOM who competed for the titles of Champions, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up, evaluated by a panel of judges that included Professional Mixologists from Hong Kong.
Over 40 hotel industry partners joined in this event with three invited international cocktail judges, Mr. Leo KO – Director of Beverage of Cordis Hong Kong - World Bartender of the Year at the World Cocktail Championship 2023, Mr. Sebastian LEUNG – Assistant Director of Beverage and Food of W Hotel Hong Kong and Ms. Shirley LAU – Manager of Artisan Lounge of Lubuds, K11 Musea. We invited Mr. Eddie NARA, Certified Spirit Educator, to coach our students in preparation for the competition. The presence of our industrial partners at the competition reflected their recognition of the students' skills and knowledge in bartending. We also invited Mr. Henry WONG - AI Robotics Solutions Limited (AI Robotics) to share valuable IT insights with our students, enhancing their understanding of technology and robotics.
The collaboration of PRIEM, CAM & HOM students added a special touch to the event. PRIEM students served as the MCs, while CAM students provided light canapés for the VIPs and HOM students actively participated as event planner, service volunteers, serving beverages and preparing canapes. From the initial planning stage to the final dismantling, the students played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event. They took on various responsibilities, including setting up the venue, reaching out to VIPs, coordinating competition logistics, generating scores, and attending to the needs of the guests. The event ran smoothly and the competition had an attendance of approximately 90 individuals.
