On 13 August 2013, over 140 candidates attended the fitness test for the Apprentice Jockeys’ School of The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s recruitment of racing trainees. Teachers and students from THEi’s Sports and Recreation Management (SRM) programme were invited to provide professional service for this exercise. The SRM Team was led by Dr. Jim Luk, who has a great deal of expertise and experience in conducting large-scale fitness tests.
The fitness test is part of the assessment for the recruitment process. It includes assessing stance balance, flexibility, handgrip strength, abdominal endurance, hand-eye coordination, muscle power, agility and running endurance. Our SRM students served as professional testers and team leaders for the assessment and acquitted themselves well. The exercise provided a golden opportunity for THEi to display its professional competence in this area to the sports and recreational industry and would have enhanced its reputation.
